Subject Information

 

Key Stage 3

 

Groups are ability set at half term of year 7 ensuring that the students achieve at their own pace. Students are assessed and leveled at the end of each term and their progress is monitored closely.

 

Year 9 SAT’s

 

In the spring term of year 9 all students will be assessed externally. They all sit 3 papers.          

                             Paper 1 calculator

                             Mental arithmetic

 

There are 4 tiers of entry

                             Level 3-5

                             Level 4-6

                             Level 5-7

                             Level 6-8

 

 

Key Stage 4

 

As a core subject all students will study mathematics at GCSE level. Students who will sit their final exams in 2007 and 2008 will be expected to complete 2 pieces of coursework. One is an algebraic investigation, the second a statistical piece.

 

As of this September coursework is no longer part of the assessment. The current year 9’s will not be expected to complete the coursework strand and will be assessed 100% exam.

 

The course we follow is OCR linear mathematics.

 

Entry Level

 

For some students an alternative course will run along side their foundation GCSE. We offer a nationally recognised entry level qualification again offered by the OCR exam board.
