Peer Mentoring.
How many times have you, in school, wished to have someone to talk to? Someone who is NOT a teacher, NOT a mate, someone who knows what you're going through? Someone who is older and can understand, but still at school. Someone who will make time for you?
Meet our Peer Mentors.
Each year, in July, we get together with the year 9's and think about what it is to move up to year 10 ~ key stage 4. What are the expectations? How different is it going to be? And what are Peer Mentors? We organise a couple of days training for ALL year 9's, training that helps develop really good listening and other skills that will help when working with people. After which, we then ask for volunteers to become Peer Mentors when they move into year 10.
The peer support tree (Child Line) shows just how many skills our year 9's learn before they move into year 10. Following on from that, our Peer Mentors then have the chance to put those skills into practice by working with the younger years in the school.

So, from accompanying the younger years on trips as support for the tutors, to helping out with homework and just being there to listen, our Peer Mentors are a valuable asset to the school. AN asset who not only offering support and understanding for our other students, but also are developing skills that will help in any future placement in college or working environments.
